Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has appointed Emirati national, Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, as its new Vice President for Corporate Safety and Quality.

Capt. Majed joined Etihad Airways in 2010 as an A330 pilot, later moving to the airline’s safety department where he has held a number of senior roles including Senior Manager Flight Safety and Head of Safety Performance.

In the new role, Capt. Majed will be responsible for the overall performance of the Safety and Quality Management systems, including the management of safety risks related to aircraft operations as well as occupational health and safety.

He takes over the role from Capt. Paolo La Cava who has joined the management team of Etihad Airways’ strategic partner Alitalia.

Capt. Richard Hill, Etihad Airways’ Chief Operations Officer, said: “We’re proud to have in Majed Al Marzouqi, an Emirati national who has worked his way from Senior First Officer to Vice President Corporate Safety and Quality.

“Capt. Majed brings considerable knowledge and in-depth experience to this crucial role which is at the heart of our business. We are confident he will build on our industry leading safety management systems and safety track record.”

Capt. Majed said: “It is a tremendous privilege to be given such an important and crucial role.  At Etihad Airways, safety and quality have always been at the top of our priorities.

“We have a solid and safe operations division and I am excited to be a leader in the safety team and continue to deliver excellence by complying with regulations, operating in the safest possible way, and contributing to the airline’s sustainable profitability.”

Etihad Airways has received widespread praise for its UAE national development strategy aimed at building airline specific capability for the future.

Ray Gammell, Etihad Airways’ Chief People and Performance Officer, said: “The development of our UAE national staff is very important to the airline.

“Our UAE national development strategy is centred on offering the best possible learning and development opportunities to Emiratis and providing meaningful rewards to those who excel, including career progression.

“Capt. Majed sets an excellent example to Emiratis who set their sights on long, rewarding careers in the airline business. We wish him all the best.”
