Microsoft has recognized 28 educators from the UAE as Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Experts, the highest number of MIEs from the UAE since the initiative started. The UAE MIEs will join more than 5,600 educators from across the globe who have made it into the MIE program. Each year, Microsoft selects innovative educator experts to share ideas, try new approaches and learn from each other through a global community dedicated to improving student outcomes through technology.

As an MIE Expert, educators build their capacity for using technology in the 21st century classroom and curriculum to improve student learning, advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in and be an advocate at conferences, events and trainings for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

“Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts are inspiring examples of educators applying new ways of teaching and learning in their classrooms that motivate students and empower them to achieve more,” said Ahmed Ameen Ashour, Regional Education lead, Microsoft Gulf. “This year has been exceptional for the UAE region with 28 educators awarded and represents a year-on-year increase of more than 300%. In line with the strategic partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program (MBRSLP), Microsoft is already helping the UAE’s current transition into a successful knowledge-based community,” added Ahmed.

As part of the recognition, few educators will have the opportunity to attend the Microsoft Exchange event happening in Budapest, Hungary in March 2016 which will be attended by more than 300 MIEs. Theevent is a global platform for MIEs to share insights on new products and tools for education, and exchange best practices as they work together to promote innovation in teaching and learning.

Commenting on this, Mohammed Gheyath, Director General for MBRSLP (Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program) said, “This initiative is well aligned with our strategy to develop new national legislation to encourage technology transfers, support innovation and establish global contractual partnerships in the education sector. Putting technology into a classroom will enable us to strengthen our economy and create greater talent. We value Microsoft’s support and we look forward to a long-term association with the company to further support educators in the UAE.”

Technology is a game changer in the classroom, with today’s students growing up being able to master using the latest devices as if it’s second nature. With the rapid growth of technology in the classroom, teachers are seeking interactive professional development opportunities that support this evolution.
