Expo 2020 Dubai
Lucky visitor purchases one millionth Expo 2020 Dubai Passport
Fadi received a certificate to commemorate buying the millionth passport, plus a goodie bag for his family and a plushie toy for his baby.
The one-millionth Expo 2020 Dubai Passport was purchased this week on 17 December by Egyptian visitor Islam Fadi, a resident of Dubai for the past seven years.
Fadi, who bought the passport within one hour of arriving onsite for his first visit with his family, was excited to experience everything the Expo site has to offer and intends to see as much as possible, starting with a number of Country Pavilions.
Islam Fadi said: “First, I will visit my home country Egypt, then the UAE, Australia and the UK. I want to discover as much as I can this week. I’m excited to visit the pavilions. I love all the decorations; everything looks absolutely fantastic – it’s amazing.”

First introduced during the Expo 1967 Montreal, the passport remains one of the most popular souvenirs for visitors to the site, prompting guests to visit as many pavilions as possible and collect stamps from each as a memorable keepsake. The bright yellow passport available at Expo 2020 encourages visitors to explore everything on offer at more than 200 participating pavilions.
Designed to replicate the look and feel of a national passport, the 50-page book marries the UAE’s rich history with its modern present, and promotes the key areas of the site within its pages, including Mission Possible – The Opportunity Pavilion, Alif – The Mobility Pavilion, Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, and the beating heart of Expo, Al Wasl Plaza. It also features depictions of Dubai’s unmistakable skyline and culture of pearl diving and falconry, as well as watermarks on each page.
No two passports are alike, with each booklet issued with a unique number and a personalised page where visitors can fill out their information and attach a photo secured with a peel-off clear adhesive sheet.
Passports are available for purchase from official Expo 2020 stores located across the Expo site, plus the official Expo 2020 store at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport and online at expo2020dubai.com/onlinestore.
