The workshop included the new HUAWEI P60 Pro exclusive hands-on experience and was hosted by celebrated photographer Sameh Houssny Aly Abdallah on At The Top, Burj Khalifa
Huawei officially kicked off the HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2023. As Huawei’s open platform for smartphone photographic excellence, the annual competition celebrates inspiration and creativity, through amazing photos and videos captured with Huawei devices around the world. Since 2017, users from more than 170 countries and regions have participated in the yearly competition, contributing nearly 4 million entries to date. On the occasion, last week HUAWEI Community has invited photography enthusiasts to the HUAWEI XMAGE Smartphone Photography Workshop in Dubai. The workshop included the new HUAWEI P60 Pro exclusive hands-on experience and was hosted by celebrated photographer Sameh Houssny Aly Abdullah on At The Top, Burj Khalifa. The event empowered twelve photography enthusiasts, selected amongst HUAWEI Community members in the UAE, with new skills and techniques for capturing stunning images using just their smartphone cameras. Participants enjoyed an informative and engaging session focused on the art of smartphone photography, with hands-on practice and personalised guidance from the seasoned photography expert.
The workshop had a pre-release experience of the new flagship HUAWEI P60 Pro. The participants learned how to take advantage of the exceptional capabilities of the Ultra Lighting XMAGE Camera of the HUAWEI P60 Pro. They acknowledged their excitement in being able to zoom in on faraway subjects with the telephoto lens and take pictures with remarkable detail.
Thanks to the Ultra Lighting Main Camera with enhanced low-light capabilities, they also managed to take some stunning images of Dubai’s nightscape from the world’s tallest building. Fortunately, customers in the UAE won’t have to wait much longer to try out this phone themselves. The much-awaited flagship will soon be coming to the UAE at an upcoming launch event on May 10th.
In addition to skill-building, the workshop offered participants the opportunity to network with like-minded photography enthusiasts. After the workshop, the participants put their newfound skills to the test with a sunset photography session on At the Top, Burj Khalifa. Participant feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their excitement to apply what they learned to their photography endeavours.
The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards is quite popular in the UAE and region. Last year, three photographers from the UAE won awards in different categories, among thousands of other professional and amateur photographers from across the world.
The award takes its name from Huawei’s proprietary Imaging Research & Development arm, XMAGE. Like its namesake, XMAGE Awards aspires to help photographers find inspiration and be innovative in photography. The XMAGE brand focuses on the optical system, mechanical structure, imaging technology, and image processing in photography. All four pillars of XMAGE now form the tenets of Huawei’s new and upcoming smartphone camera technology, like the latest HUAWEI P60 Pro.
This year’s competition has the following categories: Night Walk, Portrait, Art & Fashion, Outdoor, Hello Life, Storyboard, Action and Storytelling. Night Walk is a new category, encouraging users to photograph the hidden wonders of nightlife, using Huawei’s unique night-photo settings.
This year, the following prizes will be given out to outstanding submissions: 3 Grand Prize winners, 24 Best-in-Category winners, 27 Runner-up winners, and 5 Honourable Mentions. Winners can receive up to USD 10,000 in prize money. The XMAGE Awards Submissions globally will be open till August 15th, 2023. Users can visit the unified global submission channel for their submission, as well as submit their entry via HUAWEI Community. Entries must be images or videos captured with a Huawei mobile phone, and there are no restrictions on when the work was captured or using which Huawei mobile phone.
